Cesar Australia and EnviroDNA have implemented a Environmental Sustainability Policy focused around four key activities:

We are members of CitySwitch and report annually on our carbon footprint baseline to track over time how successful our sustainability initiatives are.

We direct waste generated in our office and lab to as many closed-loop recycling programs as possible, and where closed loop isn’t possible, to programs that keep it out of general waste. This includes:

  • Soft plastics recycling through RecycleSmart
  • Polystyrene recycling through a local council resource recovery station
  • Hard plastic, paper and cardboard recycling through a commingled recycling collection
  • Organic waste through our local council FOGO collection
  • Cans and bottles through the Container Deposit Scheme
  • Batteries and electronic waste recycling through a local council resource recovery station
  • Blister packs (brought from home by staff) are recycled through a local pharmacy TerraCycle program.

We also have initiatives in place and in train on reducing waste from the source, such as

  • Providing reusable coffee cups to staff
  • Having a “Paperless Office” policy
  • Reducing waste through our lab supply chains

Our long term goals are to reduce our use of fossil fuels, in particular coal-powered electricity and natural gas. Our efforts in this space so far include:

  • Undertaking an energy audit to identify how we are using fuel
  • Implementing recommendations from the audit, such as decommissioning equipment with low star ratings
  • Implementing a policy that all new appliances meet a high energy star rating requirement
  • Planning to transition to hybrid or electric fleet vehicles in future
  • Planning on purchasing renewable energy from the grid

Sustainability is a core part of our annual business plan. Since 2023, we have a Sustainability Working Group who drive initiatives and monitor the market for further sustainability opportunities. Each financial year the Sustainability Working Group sets actions for achieving concrete sustainability goals within the next 12 months.
